borders, boundaries, and the spaces in between

Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, FL | 2018

The edge created where the porcelain meets the existing wall is reminiscent of a border line as seen on a map. As the wall is constructed of a material which is easily broken and the “wall” created is simply a facade, this piece brings into question the strength and power of a border, and more so the effectiveness of a wall to define said border. Set around the corner of the wall, the architecture of the space allowed the piece to be installed on two different wall colors. Examining how our perception of the piece (porcelain pieces?) changes depending on the background color allows us to question our perceptions based on our own individual backgrounds and experiences.
