passage
Grant Park, Atlanta, GA | 2018
porcelain, diameter approximately 55 feet
passage is a labyrinth whose borders are set with handmade porcelain stones. Visitors to the park were invited to journey through the labyrinth, either on their own or during scheduled guided meditations. The narrow pathway encouraged visitors to encounter one another in a more intimate way than an ordinary journey through the park. Visitors were provided with prompts to consider during their passage into and out of the labyrinth, with the option to participate in an evolving “exchange of stones” at the entrance and center of the labyrinth.
Visitors encountered invitations as they journeyed into and out of the labyrinth.
This is how the site looked after thousands of footsteps compressed the earth and the stones that formed the pathway were removed.
